5 Reasons You Should Never Eat The Edges Of Brownies

Brownies are extremely polarizing. In fact, I’d go so far to say that there are two kinds of people in the world: Those who love the center cuts and those who prefer the crispy edge pieces. The debate on which piece is best may never end (one restaurant even started labeling its brownie pieces to avoid aggravating customers) but I’m at least going to try. So if you’re an edge- or, worse, corner-loving person, take a seat — you need to hear this.

1. The crust is overrated.

It’s just like the crust on a sandwich. No one truly enjoys it, you just put up with it.

2. Edge pieces are too chewy.

Brownies are supposed to be soft, chocolatey pillows — not crispy and tough on one side. Seriously, it takes way too long to gnaw through a hard edge. Ugh.

3. Fudgey > cakey.

The edge gets overcooked and loses its beautiful, blissful fudge texture that you can only find in center cuts. And don’t even think about coming at me with a varying texture argument. Please see reason No. 2.

4. Middle pieces stay warmer for longer.

The heart of the pan holds its heat and keeps the middle sections fresher, warmer, gooey-er, and downright better than any of the others.

5. Edges are for barbarians.

Instead of grabbing the most accessible square up front, take the time to cut the entire pan. Then you can enjoy the superior slices and not settle for subpar edge pieces because you were impatient.
