Trader Joe’s is a tried-and-true choice among budget-conscious grocery shoppers (you can make a week’s worth of dinners for $25!). And we especially love their 19-cent bananas and heat-and-serve orange chicken. But if you recently bought applesauce there, you’ll want to toss in the trash.
According to the FDA, TJ’s supplier, Manzana Products Co., has voluntarily recalled not one but three different types of applesauce because they could contain glass shards. Yikes.
The recall applies to the 24-ounce glass jars of Trader Joe’s All Natural Unsweetened Apple Sauce, Trader Joe’s Organic Unsweetened Apple Sauce, and Trader Joe’s First Crush Unsweetened Gravenstein Apple Sauce at locations nationwide. Before you freak out, check the UPC codes and “best by” dates—which can be found on the lid—because only a particular set have been affected:
The company was first alerted of the glass contaminants by customers, though it’s unclear if any injuries have been reported so far. To be safe, TJ’s recommends that if you purchased one of the affected products, return it to the store for a full refund or simply throw it in the garbage. If you have any questions, you can contact Manzana directly at 707-823- 5313 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
