People Are Driving More Than 3 Hours To Eat Pizza At McDonald’s

Brought to life in the late ’80s, the McPizza was McDonald’s attempt to enter the world of fast-food ‘za. It was essentially a ploy to offer more dinner-worthy options so they whipped up the pizzas with red sauce, mozzarella, pepperonis, and sausage after 4 p.m. But these pizzas — which were also offered in a Happy Meal size — were discontinued by the 1990s due to high prices and less than ideal quality.

And so, for the longest time, we thought they were just one of the fast-food items we forgot we were obsessed with at one time. Much to our surprise, however, there are three locations that still serve these pies more than 30 years later.

If you live in or venture out to Ohio, West Virginia, or Florida you can still find the rare McDonald’s pizza on the menu. In fact, the spots in Pomeroy, OH and Spencer, WV never took it off the menu, Canada.com first reported. They’re available in both personal and family sizes. And while McDonald’s headquarters says it’s not the exact recipe from the ’80s, reviews online claim that it’s extremely close.

As for the Orlando, FL location, a new line of wood-fired pizzas were added to the menu in 2016 when the brand-new, 19,000-square-foot McD’s outpost opened.

Now everyone is flocking to these restaurants to get their hands on a slice, some of them driving upwards of three hours and hundreds of miles. For pizza. At McDonald’s.

This is a long story. Back in 1996 – 1997 the McDonald’s in Bolivar, Ohio used to have McPizza. My family used to get in a big van we had and go for rides together and we’d eat there as a family eating pizza. I have photos from that trip to Bolivar. My grandma was there, both my parents, both of my brothers, my brother’s wife and my two youngest nephews, and my other brother’s girlfriend that became the mother of his son. We were together, happy, and were a family. It was great. In 1998 my grandpa committed suicide. My brother divorced his wife. My grandma went into a nursing home after a double hip replacement and lost her house. My brother got married again and had two more kids and due to disagreements about my dad and grandma he kept all his kids away from us. My dad died in 2010 having never met his only granddaughter that was 5 years old at the time and we all live in the same city. My other brother’s girlfriend gave birth to their son and got custody after they broke up. My mom had a stroke. Then McDonald’s stopped serving pizzas. Except for one in Pomeroy, Ohio on the banks of the Ohio River. My mom and I went there and left at 11 AM and got there about 3 PM. We ordered this pizza that has pepperoni, sausage, green peppers, and mushrooms on it. It was made by Jenny. Both of my nephews have graduated high school. We get to see my other nephew and niece now and my mom knows her granddaughter. My other brother just got custody of his son. My grandma died around 2006 if I remember. My dad died in 2010. Yet this McDonald’s pizza? It was like a slice of time travel back to when my family was a family. #pizzas #pizzalover #pizza #pizza #mcdonalds #family #memories #notforgotten #nostalgia #mystory #mcpizza #pomeroy #ohio
