The Barefoot Contessa’s back in the kitchen, only this time, she’s less concerned about helping you prepare a complete meal for your next Hamptons-y clambake or anniversary dinner and more about leveling up your cooking skills. In the new season of Barefoot Contessa: Cook Like A Pro — which premieres this Sunday at noon EST — Ina Garten focuses on teaching us mere mortals the culinary techniques she’s developed over 35 years in the business. Because yes, there is a right way to chop an onion, and it’s about time you learned it.
Garten considers the show a “back to basics” — with a twist. “What I find is when I cook with other people, they’re surprised by certain things that I don’t even think about,” she told People. “Like, ‘Oh, we never knew you could cut corn off the cob by putting it on a clean kitchen towel so it doesn’t bounce all over the place.'”

Garten’s not going to get super chef-y about it. After all, this is the woman who’s known for the phrase, “if you can’t find ____________, ___________ will do.” (Even if some of us internalize that to mean, “If you can’t harvest, grow, and massage your own baby kale over the next decade, store-bought will do, you lazy ne’er-do-well!” Which is not at all what Garten intends, but still. Still.)
“I always try to use ingredients that you can get anywhere in the country,” she told the magazine. Cook Like A Pro won’t be any different, and the techniques themselves will all be “simple,” so even amateurs can master them.
Upcoming episodes focus on baking bread, cooking with Parmesan cheese, whipping up boozy desserts, and techniques for make-ahead breakfasts.
