There’s no reason to pretend like we all aren’t absolutely obsessed with Krispy Kreme donuts. Seriously, video footage of the fried treats running under a fountain of hot glaze should be considered borderline pornographic.

So whenever there’s a chance to score donuts at a discount, you can bet that we’re one of the first few to lineup. For Krispy Kreme, Thursday, July 13, 2017 marks 80 years of being the undefeated champion of glazed donuts. To celebrate, the donut shop is offering a sweet deal on a dozen.

Purchase any dozen donuts at regular price, which usually go for around $10, on Friday, July 14and a second dozen is only 80 cents.

Born out of Winston Salem, NC in 1937, Krispy Kreme first became available to enjoy in a local grocery store. But the smell of those freshly prepared rings was so strong that people from all around the neighborhood went to the owner, Vernon Rudolph, asking for fresh ones hot off the line. Eighty years later and millions around the globe still can’t resist the allure of that neon red “Hot Now” sign.

But the 80th birthday celebration of the Southern staple doesn’t end there: Shaquille O’Neal, who owns a shop in downtown Atlanta, will be hosting a surprise party to promote (and also enjoy) the greatness that is a hot glazed Krispy Kreme doughnut.
