What to Watch: Home Alone

Where to watch: HBOGO, available for rent on Amazon

Every holiday season, my pal Alison hosts a Home Alone viewing night where we enjoy her perfectly decorated home, eat cheese pizza and watch Home Alone and Home Alone 2: Lost in New York. A few things can be counted on at this event: my friends will (rightly) marvel at what a psychopath Kevin McCallister actually is, our host will defend him to the grave, we will eat way too much pizza and too many baked goods, and we will try to one-up each other with Home Alone fun facts. So while a large cheese pizza is a requirement of Home Alone night, I already featured pizza in this column for Halloween, therefore it’s the sundae’s turn to shine. And I must say, I’m sad I didn’t think of this for this year’s viewing because it really is a great call. Kevin enjoys a ridiculously large sundae in both Home Alone and its twin Home Alone 2 (it’s not a sequel, they are THE SAME MOVIE), and every time that part comes on, I wish that I was eating ice cream.

What to Eat: Over-the-Top Sundaes

You know which scenes I mean, but just to recap, Kevin (having been left home alone) decides to indulge in a little ice cream with all the fixings and hunker down to watch How The Grinch Stole Christmas (he’s just like us). He does the EXACT same thing in Home Alone 2, just sub Angels With Even Filthier Souls for the Grinch.

Those scenes inspire major ice cream envy, so I figured some recipes to be inspired by would be a welcome addition to YOUR annual Home Alone viewing. Now, these are just suggestions, so feel free to make your sundae your own. And pile on the toppings; you’re not driving.
